A due passi da me

May 2  - June 6, 2007
Lisa Santarelli concerns herself with everyday themes such as love, separation and homesickness in her two part autobiographical work. The first chapter is dedicated to her life abroad and her experience of a long distance relationship. It deals with taking leave of home and beginning a new life far from the familiar. In the second chapter, she offers a portrait of an Italian family as well as of places that have been known to her since her earliest childhood. The pictures grant an insight into intimate personal situations and at the same time depict scenes familiar to us all. They show a feeling of great intimacy and occasion memories of one’s own distant past. Lisa Santarelli pays particular attention to colour and its symbolic qualities. She uses older lenses from the 1950’s, which are in fact not intended for the taking of colour photographs. As such they take on a particular character that is marked out by minimal contrasts and a very specific colour scheme.

Lisa Santarelli (*1977 Ravenna, Italy) studied art in Ravenna, Bologna and Berlin. In 2007, she completed her studies of photography at the Academy for Photography on the Schiffbauerdamm, where she studied with Robert Lyons and Wiebke Loeper. After diverse group exhibitions in Italy and Berlin, 2000 saw her first solo exhibition in Bologna. In 2004, at the Bologna ICEBERG Festival, she won the first prize GUERNICO in the category of Art Photography.
